Dark Souls Full Play | Episode 17 – Who Designs Fortresses Anyway?

Sen’s Fortress was designed by an asshole.  There I said it!  I mean who goes out of their way to make a fortress that can not, under any circumstances, be lived in?  The entire place is made out of stone, so they obviously went into making this place as dangerous as possible.  What’s the resale value of a place like this?  I guess when your main currency are the souls of the dead and demons, perhaps resale value is not something you think about.

Regardless of all of the logistical issues with Sen’s Fortress, watch as Joey V tries to navigate the numerous traps and maze like paths on his way to fighting the Iron Golem.  There is also some great information on items, mini-bosses, and farming locations that you can utilize in your own playthrough!

The concept of the full game playthrough is that a new video will be uploaded every weekday, Monday thru Friday. I will continue to do this until I have beaten the game in question. For my first time out, a poll was administered on our Facebook Page, and our fans determined that I would be playing the punishing, but entertaining game, Dark Souls.

One Comment:

  1. Did you summon Dusk of Oolacille after freeing her from the Golden Crystal Golem? She sells some spells, I’ve found Hidden Body and Cast Light to be particularly useful.

Glad you found the Stone Armour. I used it for most of my playthrough since picking it up and only recently replaced it with Black Iron Armour. The only down side to the stone set is that it can’t be upgraded. The Black Iron set starts out weaker but upgraded to +5 it becomes better on everything but lightning def and poise. You can find the whole set in Anor Londo next to the painting where you enter the Painted World. It takes Twinkling Titanite to upgrade it but that can be purchased from the Giant Blacksmith also in Anor Londo if you don’t mind farming some souls.

I got rather stuck on the weekend and kept wandering into areas I wasn’t meant to be in yet. I fought through most of the Demon Ruins only to find a gold door that required the Lordvessel to open and had to turn back. I beat pinwheel in the catacombs though and the rite of kindling that you are rewarded with was a turning point. After farming some humanity I was able to kindle a few bonfires to give 20 estus flasks each time. Anor Londo was a lot easier with double the healing and I’ve since defeated the Four Kings (after many deaths…) and Gravelord Niti (with no deaths!)

I’d suggest a detour to the catacombs when you get chance because the extra estus is really a game changer as you face tougher areas and bosses. Good luck with fighting the Iron Golem, avoid his grab at any cost or you’ll be falling off the tower a lot. One time when he threw me off it didn’t place my souls anywhere so they were just lost with no chance or recovery…

I looked at the achievements recently and decided I’m going to attempt to 100% the game. I’m told it will require at least 2 full playthroughs and a third partial one but I’m enjoying the game so far and think I could pull it off. The enemies get tougher in New Game + though so I’d better make sure to end this run with the best weapons and armour I can get in preparation. I’ve added a few things to my task list to reflect the 100% attempt.
