Dark Souls Full Play | Episode 14 – Hydras Are Really Scary

Guys … It’s one thing to say that you are going to fight and kill a giant hydra.  Sure it seems like an easy thing to do.  Yet when you are actually that hydra in all of its eyes it can be very intimidating.  So intimidating that you may just forget to put up your shield and block.  I mean look at how big that thing is!  How could you possibly block all of that incoming damage?

Yet the answer is that you can, and that the Hydra isn’t that difficult of a boss once you just focus on it.  I also make some progress in the forest, showing off just how much the forest defenders are worth soulwise, and pointing out the location of the Eastern Armor.

The concept of the full game playthrough is that a new video will be uploaded every weekday, Monday thru Friday. I will continue to do this until I have beaten the game in question. For my first time out, a poll was administered on our Facebook Page, and our fans determined that I would be playing the punishing, but entertaining game, Dark Souls.

To keep up with the Full Play, you can continue to come back to the main website, or you can Subscribe to our YouTube Channel for constant updates.

  1. Sorry the Hydra spot I mentioned didn’t work out for you first time. I suggested it because when you are at that distance from the hydra it never uses the breath attack that you can’t block. As long as you keep your shield up its completely safe.

Sif gave me a lot of trouble and I had to abbandon a rather large quantity of souls behind his fog gate when I eventually moved on to try another area. I think I just tried to take him on too early. I did find out during those attempts that the wolf seems to be weak to fire but my pyromancy was too weak at the time to take advantage. I also tried a ranged approach but he’s fast and can do a pounce attack from a fairly long distance. The most deadly move he has is a 360 degree sweep with the sword that will hit you twice if you remain in range. You can block the first hit but then as it comes around again it’ll break your guard and hit like a truck… The best luck I had with hurting him was to roll under him after the double slash and then attack from relative safety under him but he usually jumps away quickly. I wasn’t able to do enough damage last time but you’re better equiped than I was then.

I was thinking of playing some Dark Souls tonight so I might visit the Great Wolf for a rematch. I was gifted an upgraded Zweihander with very nice damage by a guy that summoned me to his game which would be suitable. I was just going to help him with a boss when some forest hunter covenant members decided to invade and it turned into a rather interesting fight. Its the first time I’d experienced the pvp with more than just 1 player involved and a 2v2 fight with agressive monsters interfering was quite interesting.
