Role-Playing Games Episode 3: Meeting the Cast

Submitted by on March 22, 2011 – 9:02 PM6 Comments

Our desire to help you geek out on the RPG table continues.  We have now reached our third episode of the g33kWatch RPGcast and this time around, we are introducing you to some of our Player Characters.  Before you do that though, if you haven’t listened to Episode 1 or Episode 2 then you probably should do that first.  In them you will hear us describe how you play the game, and hear our Dungeon Master Mikey the Palmtree talk about the unique world that he has built for us.

During the second episode, you may remember that after hearing about the world that Mikey built for us, our little group of players started to think about what characters we may go for.  In this third episode, we tell our fine viewers, what exact direction we took with our characters, and also some tricks that we did to flesh out our back stories and to improve our stats.

We could have just recorded the Podcast and left it at that, but we really wanted to help you out, assuming this may be your first time playing an RPG.  So we also attached a few character sheets from our actual players.  This way you can see what we did, and hopefully get some ideas on how we make our characters and what we value.

If you have any questions about how we made our characters, please feel free to reply to this post with your questions, or check in on our Forums where we can discuss further!

MZ – Dragonborn Paladin

Yogi – Deva Wizard

Joey V – Half-Elf Battlemind

Just got back from work and ended up listening to the podcast on my phone twice since there was nothing good on the radio.

I’m looking forward to the livecast, it’ll be interesting to see how these characters start their journey.

At the part where Yogi is explaining his character. Dude… that whole “now I’m a human and pissed” thing is awesome. I’m now doubly excited to watch this game.

  • Glad that you are both interested in this! We’re hoping that it will be fun, but also give you plenty of ideas on how to play your next RPG, whenever that may be =)

I made some tweeks to my sheet, so I’ll be sending over a new copy to Joe to post up soon.

    Hey all!

These have been so great for me. Its gave me confidence on researchin n creating a world to help push friends to want to give it a go.

Always pushed my friends (who love fantasy but more into wargaming) but noone ever got the books or wanted to be a DM.

These podcasts and ur live feed has got me ordering the books and i cant wait to sit down and create a world!

BTW, Mikey, relic world was sooo awesome, as u spoke I wanted to create a character and jump in with u guys!

    • Hi Joby!

I’m glad that you are enjoying the little series that we have been doing as of late. If we have inspired and helped out even just one person then we’ve done a great job in my eyes. We are still trying to schedule ourselves for a podcast together so that we can give you some insight into why our players do certain things, and why Mikey does other things. So be on the lookout and I hope that you can find some fellow players to enjoy DnD or any other RPG system. =)
