Fifteen years of laying my head on a different stranger’s floor
Everyday’s another stage as you struggle with the pain from the night before
Drive until dawn no sleep no time to have a life of my own
‘cause there’s bills to pay and the only way is to keep on movin’ on
Just keep on movin’ on
Jason Charles Miller – Uncountry
We here at g33kWatch are big music fans, myself included. Way back, when I was in still in High School I was into a lot of bands like Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Staind, etc. In my Senior year though, I got turned on to a band by the name of Godhead, that was fronted by Jason Charles Miller. It’s very easy to focus in on a lead singer when you listen to new music. They are after all, the first thing you hear and the first instance you can have to connect with a song. What drew me to Godhead was obviously the progressive rock and goth undertones that the music employed, but it was also the magnificent voice, and heartfelt lyrics of Miller.
That was almost 10 years ago at this point, and ever since that time I have kept very close tabs on Godhead and on Jason Charles Miller to see what would come out next. I bought ever Godhead album that came out (All amazing albums, you should go check them out), and always tried to go to a live show but was always denied by some reason or another, including missing a concert in New York City my first week of college because it was canceled on account of 9/11. The stars have just never aligned for me to see Jason. Imagine my surprise then when we here at the site found out that he would be at the Geek Media Expo in Nashville, TN this past October. “Man I can’t make that, I live in New Jersey!” I thought to myself. Yet then it dawns on us … our good friend Pedro now lives in Tennessee. Holy crap, he can go to the event and maybe get an interview!
And that’s just what we did. The interview that Pedro recorded is in video form, is 30 minutes in length and is a fantastic watch. Huge thanks to Jason taking time out to sit down and talk with us.
I know what you are saying as you read this. “Joey, I have no idea who Jason Charles Miller is. What makes him g33k of the w33k?”
Jason Charles Miller is a part of a lot of things that many of you love and enjoy. A lot more than you may think or believe. Obviously, as we have already stated, Jason is a fantastic musician back to his time with Godhead, and especially now with his fantastic new solo album “Uncountry”. In addition to that though, Jason’s gorgeous voice isn’t just suited for music. He is also a very well known and established voice actor, having provided various voices and characters for World of Warcraft, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Super Street Fighter IV, and many more animated films and video games.
He’s also done some acting here and there including movies like Everyday Joe, Day of the Dead, and Battle Planet. It was through these experiences that Jason met up with fellow geeks in arms, Grant Imahara and Felicia Day. It’s lead to some really great and fantastic collaborations. Grant and Jason were able to make cameo appearances in episodes of season five of The Guild. Jason also helped write the music of the Game On music video that the Guild cast took part in, and also musical editor on the score for Dragon Age: Redemption that featured Felicia as a character. It was on that score that Jason played guitar, bass and even laid down some vocals. In addition to all of that, Jason had Felicia in his music video for “You Get What You Pay For” and Grant in the video for “Uncountry”
Voice actor for many different geeky video games and animated series. Stars and acts in fun science fiction movies and short films. Amazing musician. Are all of those things, reason enough for why we have featured Jason this week? We think so. As promised, down below you’ll find our interview with Jason that was conducted by our own Pedro “The Raid Boss” Lourido where they talk about Jason’s musical influences, how he met up with Felicia and Grant, his favorite song to cover, what kind of character he raided with in World of Warcraft, and much much more! In addition, please check out some of his music videos. We have put a spotlight on the title track from his latest album “Uncountry” and also our favorite song cover that he did. His Covers on the Roof series is unbelievable and you should definitely check it out on his YouTube channel. It’s just what it sounds like, a ton of great cover songs that he performed while on the roof of his Los Angeles recording studio. We’ll also have Pedro’s review of the “Uncountry” album next week on the site so stayed tuned!
If you have any questions or comments, please leave them down below and we’ll try and get Jason in to answer them!
