What to Watch | June 22 – 24, 2012

It's time to do the Mario. Mario Marathon is back for their fifth year! Most of the time, I’m going to Twitch.TV and attempting to find some cool competitive game to watch.  This weekend though, it’s all about Video Game marathons that benefit charity.  The biggest one that we’re going to talk about is Mario Marathon, which has grown to be one of the best and most successful video game marathon groups that we have ever seen.  I talk a lot about Mario Marathon, because I find what they are doing very inspiring.  They are one of the major reasons why I decided to organize the Mass Effect Marathon.  Watching a group of friends get together, playing video games that they love, interacting with people all over the world, and raising money for sick children just has a lasting impact on you.

Last year Mario Marathon raised over $112,000 for Child’s Play Charity, and they are poised to have an even bigger year this time around.  For every $1000 that is raised, the Wheel of Awesome will spin and force the guys to sing, dance and make you laugh.  There is the React-Time system that allows you to cheer or boo the group and have sound effects play over the stream in real time.  Not to mention that when you donate, Mario himself will come on screen and thank you for your donation.  It’s a fantastic event that will have you laughing, cheering, and maybe even thinking about how you could run your own charity event.

If you have an event you would like to have featured on What to Watch, please send an email to joey@g33kwatch.com or leave us a note with all the vital details in the comments below.
