g33kWatch Podcast – That Movie You Like … You’re Wrong
We are about one week away from the 24-Hour Slumber Party and as such we are slowly losing our minds. So much last minute stuff that we have to take care of and we’re trying to not get too overwhelmed. Despite that, we have more announcements!
We open up the show talking about how we have TWO Video Game Consoles (Playstation 1, 1st-Gen Sega Genesis) signed by everyone at the Penny Arcade offices. Yup we know how awesome that is. We are offering one of them as an auction for Saturday night, and another one as a raffle on Sunday morning. No matter what your situation, or how you help the marathon (donations, spreading the word, etc) you can win a super unique working console signed by some great g33ks!
Also we are going to be on the July episode of CASTERS! We will be filming episode 4 this upcoming weekend and it will air as I said in July. We will also be interviewed on the hour long Podcast that they produce and we’re super excited to be getting some more exposure and to be working with supremely creative and talented people. Watch the series and catch up on the storyline so you can fully appreciate our appearance!
After that we talk about the Steampunk World’s Fair and how it’s awesome and you should go (full review write up coming). We talk about the Modern Warfare 3 leak and how that might eventually effect sales. MC Chops gives his final take on L.A. Noire (full review write up coming). We then finish up with one of our favorite segments where we talk about movies that everyone else loves, but we hate.
Oh yeah, and Mr. Khon talks about the great amount of penis found in The Hangover Part II.
Show Notes
- Wonderful people at Too Many Games convention provided us the Sony Playstation One. You should check them out next year because it’s a really fun time!

I don’t care for Harry Potter. #controversial
I loved your movie roundtable. I can argue about movies all day. I could never get into The Godfather movies, but I was, like, 14 the last time I tried. I might have to give that one another shot. I definitely agree about There’s Something About Mary, but I’m not really a big comedy person to begin with. I can’t deal with the super awkward stuff like Borat, either.
Katie, you’re killing me! 28 Days Later AND Equilibrium?! Two of my favorites. Though the Danny Boyle love reminded me, I REALLY REALLY don’t get Slumdog Millionaire. I fall shy of hating it, but I just really didn’t think it was good. I kind of hated The Wrestler, too, but Aronofsky is hit or miss for me anyway.
I don’t hate the Lord of the Rings movies, but I fastforward all the parts that have Frodo in them… is that wrong?
Eco, if I weren’t in battle over the lands of the unbelievablybadtempered Griffonery, I would turn this legion of Bohomoths right around and set sail home.
You never fastforward in LotR, NEVER.
Eco, I just have a hard time with any movie that tries to hard to make me feel a specific way. Which I feel like both of them do. They’re just TRYING SO HARD. It feels forced. Maybe that’s just me =p I can’t understand how Mr. Khon can’t like Almost Famous! That like breaks my brain!
We argue about movies all the time. We watch A LOT of movies.
One does not simply fastforward into Mordor?
Elijah Wood is one of those people that I got annoyed with when I was younger and just can’t deal with now (see also: Jason Bateman). Also, I hate that it was on multiple discs. #firstworldproblems
Equilibrium is worth watching if only for the puppy in the trunk scene, but to be fair, I’m really into dystopias, so combined with sweet fighting and the Bale, it’s straight up my alley.
28 Days Later was just a really solid film for me. I don’t think it was trying to hit people with an artsy dick (pardon my paraphrasing, lol, I was listening while I was driving), but the tone of the movie calls for that sort of cinematography. I saw it in an empty theater, so it was totally atmospheric and drew me in. Anything less would have felt like zombie camp rehash to me. Also, it has one of the best scores ever.
