Quick, There’s No Time! – 2013 g33kBowl Week 7 Predictions

There's no time! There’s always a part in the Fantasy Football season where I get swamped at the day job and just don’t have time to do an elaborate g33kBowl prediction column.  This, is one of those times.  I’m busy at work, I have friends coming into the airport and train stations, and I’m a groomsman for the wedding of two of my very best friends.  Sorry everyone but you are getting the bare bones this week.  =P

Joey V 2013 Prediction Record: (16-20)

Week 7 Matchups

The Besaid Aurochs (3-3)
Mars Space Cowboys (2-4)

Having just played the Aurochs, I can personally vouch that when things go bad, and Katie’s player drop the ball, the entire team begins to crumble.  There’s some good players on her bench, but not enough for my liking.  While I don’t think Pedro’s Space Cowboys are in a much better boat, I think those players can be a bit more consistent this week which is all that I’m looking for.

Predicted Winner: Mars Space Cowboys

Zombie Black Bears (2-4)
Hoboken Dread Pirates (0-6)

I hate to do this to Chris and the Hoboken Dread Pirates, but I’m going to have to keep picking against them until they win a game.  The lineup doesn’t look great right now and it’s just hard to trust the team as a whole.  Meanwhile Kristen and the Black Bears won the Joseph Randle sweepstakes and get to start the Dallas backup RB this week against a terrible Philadelphia defense.  Give me the Black Bears!

Predicted Winner: Zombie Black Bears

Soldier’s Peak Wardens (3-3)
Hopped Up Titans (3-3)

Tough to gauge just which way this game will go.  Two 3-3 teams playing in the middle of the season is a huge crap shoot to try and analyze.  If I have to give any edge, it’s probably to Mike and the Soldier’s Peak Wardens.  I think Cam Newton is starting to heat up and find his fantasy scoring rhythm again, and that spells doom for the rest of the league.  There are a bunch of playmakers on the Hopped Up Titans, but they are just far too inconsistent for me to feel comfortable.

Predicted Winner: Soldier’s Peak Wardens

NJ Fear Boners (2-4)
Citadel Spectres (5-1)

Sometimes you just need to pick yourself to win.  Have to believe in the team you have.  I think the Fear Boners have a great shot in this one, but they need a big game from Demariyus Thomas.  If he doesn’t have a big night, then the chances go down wildly for the Boners.

Predicted Winner: Citadel Spectres

Lunaris Robunnys (4-2)
Cydonia Chryssalids (4-2)

There are so many injuries for Paul and the Chryssalids that it’s giving me a sprained ankle just to look at the list.  This week they need everyone at their best, because Yogi and the Robunnys are coming with a stacked team that is completely healthy.  There are just too many good players and too many good matchups for the Robunnys this week.  I think the Chryssalids have a chance, but I see this game slipping away from them.

Predicted Winner: Lunaris Robunnys

Week 7 Spotlight Match

Scottish Highlanders (4-2)

Two great friends battle to the death to see who emerges victorious!  Jimmy and ARRGAN IISOU are riding a losing streak coming in, and despite me disliking just about everyone on Sam’s team, the Highlanders continue to pull off victories.  I can’t explain why either of them are happening, just doesn’t make sense.  I suppose that I’m going to choose the Highlanders this week just because it’s hard to bet against Peyton Manning, but I do think this is going to be really close.  Besides Peyton, Justin Blackmon is probably going to be the difference maker in this matchup.  If he does well, it might be a good week for the Highlanders.

Predicted Winner: Scottish Highlanders

  1. One on short-term IR, one probable, and four questionable. UGH.

  2. I was looking today to try and get handle for myself on what was happening to my team and it got me to wondering how much you take into account aggregate points for/points against when making predictions. It isn’t a great indicator of what will happen in a single match-up other than maybe pointing out consistency. What is your opinion on this?

    • It does factor into my thoughts a lot more than you would think. Generally speaking I don’t care what a person’s record is when I’m trying to think about who might win. Honestly, none of that matters. What does matter is on average, how many points do they score on a weekly basis. If I can see consistency out of them, I feel better about knowing what kind of output they are capable of.

When I see teams that have lots of peaks and valleys, I am nervous about them and then I have to pay attention to individual player matchups. Are these players only good when they get garbage time points, or when they go up against inferior opponents? Stuff like that.

I generally look at the player output a lot more and see how consistent they are, but I also like to look at how a Fantasy team is doing overall. I never care about “points against” because that is just an indicator of how lucky / unlucky they have been in previous matchups. =)
