g33kBowl Week 8 Predictions

Last week was probably the worst week of Fantasy Football I have ever seen.  Not because I lost, I’m actually really happy for Soah, but it was just a week where so many good players were on Bye Week, and the players we were left with just didn’t play well.  Take for example, Soah had Arian foster who scored 40+ points in our league.  That’s great, but that total was higher than some TEAMS overall scores.  That’s how insane last week was and I’m just looking forward that we can put it behind us.

We’re more than half way through the season, and the Fantasy Playoffs are just around the corner for us so I figured I would talk about ways to ensure that you keep winning into the playoffs, or if you are outside of the Top 4, how you can make a late season run.  Early in the season when we draft, all we want are the best players available, scrubs are people who we put on our bench to round out the roster.  Yet as you get closer to the end of the season, it’s those backup players, those second string guys, those players from really bad NFL teams that you are going to want to have.  Allow me to explain.

As you get later in the season, the good teams want to rest their great players because they want them to be healthy for the Playoffs.  Sometimes they may not specifically state that they are going to sit out, or that they may only play a few snaps, so you could be left with terrible numbers later in the year from your usually stud player.  There is also the situation that as really bad teams are eliminated from play, they may give their rookies or lesser known players a lot more playing time to see what kind of skills they have and prepare for next season.

What this means to you in terms of Fantasy is that if you want to win the league, or if you want to get in to the playoffs, you need to start really paying attention and seeing who is going to be playing and who is available.  Sometimes you can find a sleeper player hidden in the free agent pool, who no one else is talking about but will when the end of the season comes.  Try and find at least one of those players just as an insurances policy, because you never know what the end of the season is going to bring.

Now your week 8 matchups, and I’m super happy to say that I’m now well over 50% for my predictions so I feel pretty great!

Prediction Record: (27-22)

Week 8 Matchups

Team Caporrino (2-5)
English Kniggits (1-6)

Ever since Arian Foster came back to full time duty, Soah and the English Kniggits have been a very tough team.  The combination of Foster and Darren Sproles who is having a career year is a dangerous combination.  On the flip side, Caporrino’s work horse Ray Rice is not finding as many opportunities in the Raven offense as he should.  Rice was the kind of player that allowed all the other players on the team to be average as he would pick them up.  Now that doesn’t seem to be the case, and Cappy is suffering for that.  I’m sending my vote to Soah this week who’s playing great ball.

Predicted Winner: English Kniggits

Binary Rock-Jocks (4-3)

Both of these teams have been playing really well as of late.  I will always remind you that Binary is dealing with the season long loss of Peyton Manning and he’s still 4-3 with a shot at the playoffs.  Drakmarth and ARRGAN IISOU have just been playing solid week in and week out, and now these two teams matchup.  While ARRGAN has the record advantage, I’m liking the roster moves for the Rock-Jocks.  Say what you will about Tim Tebow, the guy wins, scores fantasy points, and now is the main QB for Binary.  Add to that Ryan Matthews, Fred Jackson, and the return of Antonio Gates, and that’s a roster that I just don’t want to play right now.  ARRGAN IISOU has a chance with LeSean McCoy, but I think there’s just too much talent with the Rock-Jocks

Predicted Winner: Binary Rock-Jocks

Hoboken Dread Pirates (3-4)
Citadel Spectres (5-2)

Spectres got smacked around last week as they should have.  got to get humbled now and again right?  Well this week I see more losing on the Citadel.  Gunshow and the Dread Pirteas have a strong WR core this week with DeSean Jackson, Miles Austin and Wes Welker all going.  While the Spectres may have the advantage at QB / RB, I just have this hunch that the WR’s for Gunshow are going to show up and show up big.  It’s a gut call, but I’m going with the Dread Pirates.

Predicted Winner: Hoboken Dread Pirates

Team Malfunct (2-5)
Lunaris Robunnys (4-3)

I’ve had this week circled on my calendar because this is the week that the Green Bay Packers have their Bye Week.  That means that Malfunct is going to be missing Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Defense and a few other key players that he had been using.  Sure, the Robunnys have been having a rough few weeks, but this game really comes down to the fact that the MVP for Malfunct isn’t there and that’s going to cause huge issues.  I’m going with the Bunnys this week.

Predicted Winner: Lunaris Robunnys

Zombie Black Bears (4-3)
NJ Fear Boners (3-4)

The Fear Boners are losing so many players this week to injury and to Bye Weeks that I’m unsure where the bulk of the scoring is going to come from.  On the other side, the Black Bears are bringing back their full team for the most part, and have Tom Brady back in charge at QB.  I’m sure that this game will be closer than I’m making it out to be, but as of this writing the Fear Boners don’t have two of their WR slots filled in.  I mean I know they will, but looking at their bench and who is available as a free agent, they might be better off leaving them blank!  It’s going to be a tough week, and I’m going with the Zombies.

Predicted Winner: Zombie Black Bears

Scottish Highlanders (4-3)
The Besaid Aurochs (3-4)

The theme for this week is Bye Weeks and injuries and the Besaid Aurochs have plenty of both.  McGahee is out this week dealing a blow to Katie V’s RB core, and Roddy White and Jay Cutler are on Bye Week for her. There is some injury concerns with Majik and the Scottish Highlanders as to the health of Matthew Stafford, but other than that his team is pretty much fully healthy and still has Calvin Johnson who is trying to steak claim to the fact that he’s the best WR in the game.  I want to vote for my wife here, but her team is pretty thin and having these injuries and Byes just makes it so difficult for her to fight back.  I’m going with the Highlanders this week.

Predicted Winner: Scottish Highlanders

Week 8 Spotlight Match

Mars Space Cowboys (3-4)
Tuchanka Thresher Maw’s (6-1)

Only one loss this year for the Thresher Maw’s.  I guess there was a Krogan uprising that one week, because other than that Terry and the boys from Tuchanka have just looked unstoppable.  This week I had initially thought it might be possible for Pedro and the Space Cowboys to end the winning streak, but the Bye Weeks have come to bite him straight in the ass.  Matt Forte, Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson and Tony Gonzalez are all on Bye this week and the Space Cowboys are scrambling to fill in roster spots.  The Thresher Maw’s on the other hand?  Full team this week.  Blech, it’s going to get ugly, but the reason why it’s a spotlight match is too fold.  #1 if Pedro can come back to win this, it would be a super huge upset.  #2 if Terry and the Maw’s win, it will be cool to see just how dominant they can be in the stretch.

Predicted Winner: Tuchanka Threser Maw’s

  1. From round 3 I originally drafted my team with bye weeks in mind. In hindsight this was a horrible move :-p Injuries and surprising bad play from same stars has really been telling for some fantasy teams.

    • I mean it is nice to spread out the Bye Week hurt but injures are impossible to predict and can mess up a team really badly. This year since 6 teams go on bye all the time, it’s an odd year to try and build a fantasy team at. You almost just want thme to all have a Week 5 bye week, lose that game, and then go big the rest of the weeks.

I don’t know, it’s been an interesting season to be sure!

  2. I don’t know how this has happened, but I’ve got the second best W/L tied with the Spectres and behind the Thresher Maws (who scare the crap out of me). This has to be luck more than judgement or Godless blood-letting rituals more than skill.

I have no idea what to do with my crappy roster picks, some of the people I have are just plain awful that I am left wondering what will happen when a big Bye week comes around again, I mean last time I forgot to swap my Bye nothing changed because his replacement suck. HASHTAGSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKED.

  3. Joey was right, week 8 put a big pile of hurt on me 🙂 Thats ok things are back to normal for week 9 and maybe something amazing will happen and I can get another win 🙂
