Letter From the g33kWatch Editor – New Beginnings

blacktemplars Joey V here, and if you are reading this, then welcome to our new site, g33kWatch!

I’m happy to report that most of the heavy lifting for this website change has already taken place.  The domains have changed and most of the images, videos and podcasts are fixed so that they all work.  If there are any issues with the site that you come across, please e-mail us.

So I’m sure the big question that most of you are having would be why the name change?  Well when we originally made the CosWatch website, we had the goal to go to different anime conventions and find the best Cosplay costumes we could fine, take pictures of them, and interview people to find out what they liked about the conventions and about the Cosplay hobby.  We went to conventions like Anime Boston, Katsucon, Anime USA, Zenkaikon and many others to try and bring you the best coverage we could.

For me though, things started to change once we got invited to go to PAX East.  Specifically we were invited to go preview some video games, and talk to Gabe and Tycho.  This transcended the Cosplay focus that we originally had, and we had such a great time that it really showed us that we had a great opportunity to do other things while at conventions.

So the question then became where did we go with the site.  Since we are all into geeky hobbies, and with the site having the chance to not just take pictures but to also hang out with guests, listen to new music, and try out new video games, we wanted to focus on the geeky aspects of conventions and the community at large.  Therefore, GeekWatch was born.

Of course, somebody in Australia has geekwatch.com already registered, so we took out the E’s and replaced them with 3′s!

You can look forward to a lot of great new content on the site as we go along.  The first thing that we are working on is a new logo.  As much as i like the spray paint look, we need to finish that up.  =)  In addition we are going to be on a bi-monthly schedule for our Podcast series.  We also will have a new section called Geek of the Week which will spotlight people who are doing great work for the geek community.

Above all else, we just want to remind people that Geek is not a bad word anymore.  We just want to remind everyone about that, and display all of the fun events and activities that are going on in the community.

So keep on coming to the site, and be on the look out for a lot of new content coming to the site.  If you have anything that we should cover and talk about, go e-mail us.
