CosWatch Broadens Brand, Changes Name to g33kWatch
CosWatch came onto the con scene in 2009, first bringing their unique brand of convention coverage with Anime Boston 2009. After one full year of touring the east coast convention circuit, meeting new friends, and amazingly getting access to talk to guests and big wigs far more interesting than themselves, the staff of CosWatch has determined that it’s time for a change.
With that in mind, effective immediately, CosWatch will be known as g33kWatch.
“This move is not quite Revolution by the Beatles. It is more Evolution by Pearl Jam” said head of staff Joseph Valenti.
Joseph continued by saying, “The initial focus of CosWatch was to proudly display the best in Cosplay. As the year went on though and the site grew larger, we started being invited to a wide range of events that were not specifically focused on the Cosplay hobby. Events like PAX East, Steampunk World’s Fair, A&G Ohio and others offered us an opportunity to go to conventions that spoke to our many different geeky interests. Cosplay wasn’t enough, we needed to focus on geek culture as a whole, and so that’s why we are changing the name.”
The new web address that fans can find the site will be www.g33kwatch.com.
When explaining the origins of the new name, Head of Podcasting Affairs Pedro Lourido explained, “We wanted to make it GeekWatch, but some jerk had already registered that domain. So we replaced the E’s with 3’s and here we are!”
g33kWatch will operate under the philosophy and schedule that CosWatch had previously. The site will aim to go to many different conventions, offering con-goers and fans large amounts of cosplay photos, an inside look at events, interviews with guests, and ultimately reviewing the con afterwards. In addition, with the new broader outlook, the site will be able to provide a regularly updated Podcast series, thoughts on new game releases, and many more topics that are geeky and cool.
Twitter and Facebook will also play a big role in how news and information get to the fans. Both social media sites have been updated to reflect the new name. For those on Twitter, there is no need to update anything, the account has already been changed over. For those on Facebook though, you will have to find us on Facebook again, via the links below.
